May is one of the children who received a $1,000 Rise Family Grant from CNF. Here is a message from her parents.
“Our daughter May suffered what seemed like a small fall at the age of 5 months, she was rushed to the hospital after she threw up which was out of character. Our worst nightmare was confirmed: she had internal bleeding, a CT showed a small fraction in her skull that cut a major artery in the brain. They said she may not make it. After surviving the surgery and waking up from the coma she spent a whole day suffering seizures almost 50. Another CT showed a stroke. Over the past year, we have been working on controlling seizures and now May has been seizure free for 6 months (after suffering almost 200 of them). May has been in therapy since the accident happened trying to help her development as much as possible.
Thankfully our little miracle May now will be 2 years old in September, seizure free, she walks and has a few words. We continue to work with her daily, and give thanks for every day, every step and every milestone.
Myself and my husband own an events company producing events for different brands specializing in experiential marketing. One day we were getting ready to produce a week-long installation for Brightline, for St. Patty’s day the next day that’s cancelled and all of our events for 2020. It was terrifying, especially at 8 months pregnant. This grant helped us out more than you can imagine, it put food on the table and helped pay for the roof over our heads. We have no idea what we are going to do next, when the next job will come but we are hopeful because of organizations like yours. THANK YOU.” – Melissa
